Applications

The YG1 85565TE solid carbide end mill, with a 3/16″ diameter and 5/16″ length of cut, is tailored for stub length finishing operations requiring precision and rigidity. Its 5-flute design combined with a 45° helix angle and YG TiAlN Extreme coating enhances surface finish and tool longevity by minimizing vibration and promoting efficient chip evacuation when machining steel and related materials. This setup is well-suited for finishing low carbon steels such as 1018 and A36, where greater flute counts and variable pitch yield superior finishes. Offered by Travers Tool for finishing in Steel (ISO P), Stainless Steel (ISO M), HRSA (ISO S), and Cast Iron (ISO K), this tool’s geometry omits a corner radius, relying on coating and design synergy to reduce edge chipping. Its center-cutting capability allows plunge cutting when necessary. This end mill is not recommended for Non-Ferrous (ISO N) materials because of coating unsuitability that can lead to accelerated wear. It is also unsuitable for roughing or heavy material removal, where longer lengths of cut or alternative coatings are preferred.
