Applications

The YG1 85570TC solid carbide finishing end mill, sized at 7/32″ diameter with a 3/8″ length of cut, features five flutes and a TiCN coating designed to provide excellent rigidity and precision for finishing steel. Its 45° helix angle and higher flute count improve surface finish and chip evacuation, particularly in low carbon steels like 1018 and A36, matching recommended finishing practices. The stub length offers stability and reduces deflection during light radial stock removal. Variable pitch flute geometry reduces vibration and chatter, extending tool life and enhancing surface quality. The TiCN coating supports steel machining durability, while the center-cutting design enables plunge cutting and slotting. The absence of a corner radius requires controlled feed rates to prevent edge chipping. This end mill is not suited for heat resistant superalloys (HRSA ISO S) due to TiCN coating unsuitability and rapid degradation. It is also less effective for heavy roughing or interrupted cuts in hard materials, where a corner radius and alternative coatings would be necessary.
